WALLPAPER TERMS

Bolt of paper  - A bolt of wallpaper is the same thing as a double roll which covers approximately 50 square feet.

Booking  - Term used for folding paper after water or paste is added  to activate the paste.

Damask  - Wallpapers with traditional leaves and scrolls in 1 or 2 shades.

Double roll  - A double roll is the same thing as a bolt.  It is how 2 single rolls are shipped

Drop Match  - When a pattern match does not occur in a straight line.  The pattern drops in predetermined increment which is the repeat.

Expanded Vinyl - This paper is a raised soft vinyl look.

Faux Finish  - Faux means false and imitates leather, stone, marble, animal prints or other designs.

Foil  - Is a solid metallic paper with a high sheen.  These papers require a completely smooth wall as the light reflects off any imperfections.

Grasscloth   - A wallcovering with a woven material applied to the backing.  It has a natural, nubby effect with no match.  The seams will show on this paper.

Metallic - Any paper that has an irridecent or reflective appearance.

Neoclassic - 18th century decor and architecture of ancient Rome or Greece.

Nonwoven  - A new substrate that is breathable and contains no vinyl.  They  remove easy in one piece.

Railroading  - Is when a stripe or log paper is hung horizontally instead of vertically.

Run or Lot Number - A batch or wallpaper, border or fabric that has been printed or dyed at the same time.

Repeat  - The distance from the center of one motif to center of the same repeated motif.

Sample - Can be ordered from any wallpaper, border or fabric.  They are $4.00 and in range in size form 1'x 1' to 3' x 3'

Sizing or Primer - A paint like product applied to walls before hanging. It is important for adhesion, strippability and better hanging.

Straight Match - A pattern match that is equally spaced across the strip and matches horizontally with each successive strip.

Toile  - Refers to Toile de Jouy which is a fabric or wallpaper with a pastoral scene in one or two colors.
